Materials manufacturer AV has furthered its localization and sustainability efforts in the Asia-Pacific region by launching production of a partially bio-based raw material for coatings, widely used in construction and infrastructure applications. This month, the company began ramping up production of Desmophen® CQ NH polyaspartic resins at its Foshan site in southern China, following a recent launch in Europe during the third quarter. This local production reduces delivery times and ensures a stable supply for regional customers seeking sustainable solutions.

Desmophen® CQ NH polyaspartics contain at least 25 percent bio-based content, contributing to a lower carbon footprint, and maintain the high performance of their fossil-based predecessors. These resins offer excellent chemical and weather resistance, ensuring long-lasting stability and protection across diverse environments. With rapid curing properties, they enhance construction efficiency for a quicker return to operations. Additionally, they are formulated to minimize VOC and odor emissions, supporting a reduced environmental impact. Key applications include wind turbine coatings, flooring coatings and grouts.

Notably, the Foshan site is entirely powered by renewable energy sourced from offshore wind farms in southern China, further reducing the cradle-to-gate carbon footprint of Desmophen® CQ NH.

“AV is dedicated to promoting a circular economy, which includes expanding the use of alternative raw materials and transitioning to renewable energy in production,” said Anand Khot, Senior Vice President of Coatings and Adhesives for Asia Pacific at AV. “Our local production of partially bio-based Desmophen® CQ NH demonstrates our commitment to building a stable and efficient supply network in Asia Pacific that quickly adapts to market needs, supporting our customers’ and end-users’ requirements for increased circularity.”

Desmophen® CQ NH is part of AV’s Pasquick® fast-curing coating technology and can also be paired with other partially bio-based products, such as Desmodur® CQ aliphatic polyisocyanates, within the Pasquick® technology portfolio.

Currently, AV locally produces about 75 percent of its products sold in the coatings and adhesives industry across Asia Pacific, reinforcing the company’s commitment to strengthening manufacturing in the region.

A total of 500kg of waste was collected during the event, with a large component of the waste collected from industrial sources. Tangaroa Blue weighed and separated the waste, then logging that collected into a data base that is used to address the flow of litter at the source.

This is a small part of a bigger commitment to raise awareness about responsible waste management and engagement of everybody to address plastic pollution, and to inspire year-long action to live more sustainably.

AV Australia supporting the AV Global Commitment as “individuals and as a company, we need to care for our Planet”, Clean Up Day is putting this into action and making positive change.

From our CEO Markus Steilemann : “Resource consumption is increasing, mountains of waste are growing – with negative consequences for the environment and climate. There is an urgent need to take countermeasures and fundamentally change consumer habits and production patterns. We need to make the circular economy a reality, and the recycling of plastics is crucial for this. AV can and wants to play a central role in this”.

Full speed ahead with sustainability | AV
